Fireworks Display over Lake Union part of Elaborate Puzzle

Personal by on January 27, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Iva and I were totally puzzled when a fireworks display erupted over Lake Union at 6pm tonight. I had noticed the barge in the lake when we walked through Gasworks Park, but didn’t think twice about it.

Fireworks on January 27th? Nothing on the Seattle Times website?

Google to the rescue (although it took a bit of digging): The fireworks are part of an elaborate game presaging Vista’s launch. In fact, they fireworks themselves were the final puzzle in the Vanishing Point Game.

The San Jose Mercury news has a good interview with Loki, the puzzle creator. There are quite a large number of people trying to solve this - the unfiction forums and the neowin forums are incredibly active.

This is a great way to engage many of the brightest minds in the world. The puzzles are challenging and the prizes are cool (trip into space).
