What is the curse?

At this point, even the most casual baseball fans have heard about the curse of the Bambino. I won’t bore you with the details of the Babe Ruth trade made in 1920 that cursed the Red Sox and endowed the Yankees with World Series failure and success respectively.

But what is the curse?

  • The curse is winning 5 American League Pennants and 0 World Series to NY’s 39 & 26.
  • The curse is being dominated by the Yankes, who, yes, have won 26 World Series since 1918. Oh, and prior to that fateful trade, Boston absolutely dominated the Yankees (and baseball) - winning 6 Pennants and 5 World Series, to the Yankees 0 Pennant wins.
  • The curse is losing all 4 World Series attempts in 7 games and in spectacular fashion.
  • The curse is being one pitch away from a world series win in 1986. After not winning on the one pitch, the curse is watching a ground ball a few batters later slip through the legs of Bill Buckner, giving the Mets the win.
  • The curse is never feeling comfortable with a lead, no matter how great.
  • The curse is being up 5-2 in the 7th inning of the game 7 ALCS with your ace on the mound, only to lose to the Yankees in 11 innings.
  • The curse is never believing, because once you do, the Sox lose again.

The curse is being up 3-0 in the World Series and beginning to believe again, but unable to eat regularly because I know better…
